Project London City began its journey as Central City London in December 2022, originally founded by rockywl and Bucker. With a focus on building a strong FiveM server, Cal, our current owner, along with rockyywl (previously) and co-owner (current) Tyrone, worked on developing assets and managing the server. At that time, Tyrone was not as deeply involved in development as he is known for today. Meanwhile, Josh, another (current) co-owner, and Kushty, our (current) Head of Management, focused on ensuring quality RP across all player services. Jay, former Senior Management, also contributed to development, with a primary
focus on RP departments and media.
Early on, we faced significant challenges, with server growth stagnating and internal differences on the best way forward. External pressures from another server further complicated things, leading to tensions and struggles within our team. Despite this, we made key changes that set us up for long-term success, though one of our founding members, Buckers, decided to step
down. We remain grateful for his contribution to the server.
A major strength of our early days was our media team, led by Dave. He mentored and supported the team, ensuring that our media content was top-notch. Dave's leadership helped establish a solid foundation for our community, which played a crucial role in our growth.
By February 2023, Cal and Rockie became increasingly busy with real-life commitments, making it difficult for Cal to keep up with development work. To ensure the server's stability, Cal and Rockie granted server access to future co-owners Josh and Tyrone. Tyrone, with his exceptional skills in development and asset management, became a key player in elevating the server. He led significant projects, including overhauling the vehicle fleet, retexturing assets with Kushty, reorganising the Vehicle Spawn menu, and revamping the EUP menu, all of which enhanced the server experience for the community.
On 17th June, 2023, Cal and Rockie became joint owners, and by 3rd August, Cal officially became the sole owner of Central City London, with Tyrone and Josh as co-owners. On 11th September, 2023, we rebranded the server to Project London City, accompanied by a full departmental restructure. However, our player count dropped from an average of 30 to just 10, forcing us to consider the possibility of closing our community's doors.
In response, the leadership team - Cal, Josh, Tyrone, Kushty, and Synic - explored the idea of switching from a standalone network to QB-core, which would allow for new features like economy, jobs, donator perks, and gangs. This decision offered a potential fresh start for the community.
Despite months of hard work, the immense pressure took a toll on the ownership and development teams, leading to a loss of motivation. On 29th October, 2023, we made the difficult decision to close the server for good. After the closure, the team moved on, forming new circles and pursuing other interests.
However, in late November, Cal reached out to Tyrone with the idea of reviving Project London City. After initial discussions and gauging the community's interest, the response was overwhelming. Less than 24 hours later, a new server was purchased, and development began once again. Following extensive discussions and several days of dedicated effort and preparation by the entire team, in recognition of Synic's hard work and leadership, within the server and our Metropolitan Police department, he was appointed as Deputy Commission of MET, serving directly under Kushty, who held the position of Commissioner at the time. This marked a significant milestone in Synic's time within the server, as their qualities and contributions became instrumental in guiding the organisations strategic direction alongside the existing leadership.
In just five days, Project London City was back online, reuniting the community and leadership team - Cal, Josh, Tyrone, Kushty, and Synic. During the Christmas period, we celebrated with a massive update and hosted several giveaways for the community to enjoy. Sadly, during this time, one of our ex-management members experienced a tragic event, deeply impacting Tyrone due to their familial connection - affecting his emotional well-being and development efforts.
Through all the ups and downs, Project London City proved to stand strong, driven by a shared passion and dedication to creating a vibrant and welcoming community for all.
One of our key initiatives in the new year was to find ways to enhance our offerings to the community, while also providing a way for members to support the server - this led to the introduction of exclusive donor packages! These packages feature a election of unique, high-quality vehicles designed for donor subscribers to enjoy and enhance their own stories while exploring the city. By offering these special vehicles, we not only add more excitement and variety to the gameplay experience but also create an opportunity for dedicated members of the community to contribute to the server's continued growth and development. This project reflects our commitment to giving back to our community while ensuring long-term sustainability for the server.
On 8th January, we reached a significant milestone for our server, proudly welcoming our 600th member to our Discord community! This achievement marked a new era of growth on our server. In tandem with this milestone, we also introduced bi-weekly events, expertly organised by our dedicated events team. These events included a diverse range of activities such as hide and seek, search and rescue and racing competitions, and much more! The community's response was overwhelmingly positive, with members showing great interest and excitement. These events not only boosted engagement but further fostered a deeper sense of camaraderie and fun amongst our members.
On 31st January, our owner, Cal, who had long been passionate about supporting charitable causes, particularly cancer research, initiated an exciting fundraising project. His vision was to create a meaningful way for our community to contribute to the fight against cancer. The result was the launch of a unique auction centered around a specially designed police vehicle - adorned with pink lights and cancer awareness stickers. The highest bidder in the auction earned the exclusive privilege of using this one-of-a-kind vehicle within the server. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our community, we successfully raised an impressive €50 from our community members, which Cal generously matched and a total of 100 was donated to cancer research! This project not only showcased our community's commitment to making a difference, but also highlighted the power of gaming communities to support important causes close to our hearts, especially such a impactful and devastating disease such as cancer.
In February, we rolled out a major civilian update that brought new opportunities for our community members. This update introduced the ability for members to establish their own businesses and Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) within the server. The aim of this update was to significantly enhance the depth and variety of the civilian experience - whether members wanted to pursue entrepreneurial ventures or delve into the world of organised crime, the update provided fresh avenues for creativity, roleplay, and extended storylines, whilst marking a pivotal step in expanding the interactive possibilities for our community.
In addition to this, our player count soared to an impressive peak of 40 concurrent players, showcasing the incredible growth and popularity of our server. However, this success came with significant challenges. As our player base expanded, we encountered a major issue - severe texture loss and a lack of optimisation, which rendered the server practically unplayable at times. The increased demand on sever resources revealed critical limitations, leading to a frustrating experience for our layers. In response, our team worked tirelessly over the course of a month to address these problems. We meticulously optimised assets and made improvements to our server infrastructure, ensuring it could handle the larger player population without compromising performance. Thanks to this dedicated effort, the server was stablised, allowing us to provide a smooth and more enjoyable experience for our growing community.
Building on the momentum from our previous efforts, Kushty spearheaded the ambitious V2 (PLC Version 2.0) project - a transformative update for the server. Thanks to Kushty's leadership and dedication, this overhaul brought significant improvements to every department, fundamentally enhancing the overall server experience. The V2 update touched nearly every aspect of the server, including MLOs, EUP, vehicles, assets, scripts, and more, marking a new era of content and functionality.
One standout example of this massive update was within our civilian department, which saw the introduction of 30-40 new clothing items, offering members more customisation and creativity in their character design. Additionally, over 50 new civilian vehicles were added, providing players with an expansive range of options to enjoy while navigating the city. Kushty's remarkable work on the V2 project laid the foundation for a revitalised and enriched server experience that resonated across the entire community. We are immensely grateful for his contribution to our team, the project and the server as a whole.
Over time, our server has evolved from a small gathering place for friends into something much larger - thriving, community-driven experience. What once began as a space for a close-knit group has grown into a vibrant hub where players from all walks of life come together to create, roleplay, and immerse themselves in the GTA RP universe.
This transformation was never something we planned for in the beginning, but it became clear that the heart and soul of the server were the players themselves. When we transitioned PLC, it was the voices of the community that guided us through that shift. Their feedback, ideas, and passion played a pivotal role in shaping the direction we decided to take.
Rather than just being a server run by a handful of individuals, it became something built for and by the community. Every major decision - from the features we introduced to the rules we enforced - was heavily influenced by the needs and desires of our players. The collective creativity and input from our members pushed us to constantly evolve, ensuring that the server stayed fresh, inclusive, and fun for everyone.
As we move forward, our community continues to be the driving force behind everything we do. We're not just building a space to roleplay - we're fostering a shared vision, where each player's voice contributes to the bigger story. This sense of collective ownership is what makes our server truly unique, and we're proud of the community we've built together.
